Projects > Yogi Chair

My boldest project during the Fine Woodwork course at the Building Crafts College was the Yogi Chair, incorporating many techniques I wanted to try, and a few I made up!
It is built using English sycamore and traditional natural upholstery.
My motivation for this design grew from seeing a lot of my friends seating in a cross-legged position on regular chairs. So as an exercise in specialised ergonomics, I decided to make a large cushion seat that can be used in a variety of alternative positions.
I was heavily inspired by Chinese and Indian thrones and my aim in this project was to re-establish our innate relationship with the floor by raising it to meet western furniture.
